[PRESS RELEASE] Photocatalysis successfully decomposes dog and cat allergens in solution and dry state

Towards an allergen-free society where we can coexist with animals.

A research group led by Specially Appointed Professor Aida and consisting of researchers from the University of Tokyo, Caltech Co., Ltd., and Inuyama Animal Medical Center, is pleased to announce that it has demonstrated, for the first time in the world, that titanium dioxide photocatalysts can decompose dog and cat allergens, eliminating their allergenicity.

It is estimated that 10% to 20% of the population has allergies to dogs and cats, and animal allergies are one of the major reasons why people abandon their dogs and cats at shelters. Establishing a method to control pet allergies, which can lead people to give up their beloved pets, is considered extremely important for establishing a better partnership between humans and pets in the future.
