Caltech's SDGs

Kartec's photocatalytic technology is
Contributing to a sustainable society.

Development of a unique and excellent photocatalyst

"Secret sauce"Unique photocatalyst

PhotocatalystFilter

Kartech's core competence is photocatalysis. By applying unique innovations to titanium oxide, the main material, we have dramatically improved the performance of photocatalysts. This material know-how is our "secret sauce." We are currently working on developing this material, aiming to develop a "super photocatalyst."

Pond waterPurification experiment

In order to expand the range of applications of photocatalysts from household appliances to various industrial uses, we are conducting basic research as well as joint research with universities and research institutes. We are conducting demonstration experiments to utilize the air purification effect to be useful in hospitals, plant factories, and logistics systems, and the water purification effect to be useful in land-based aquaculture and pond water purification.

Contributing to solving social issues

Contribution through business
  • Creating a safe and secure space through air purification
  • Contributing to reducing food waste
  • A design that doesn't get in the way of your living space
  • Recycling and Utilization of Resources
Contribution through social activities
  • Revitalizing the economy through product donations to local shopping districts and other commercial organizations
  • Revitalizing amateur sports through donations to various sports organizations
  • Supporting the independence of people with disabilities
Air and water purification using photocatalysts

Kartec's unique "photocatalytic technology" breaks down organic matter such as viruses, bacteria, and odors in the air, purifying it into clean air.
While supplying sterilizing and deodorizing machines equipped with photocatalytic technology both domestically and internationally, we are also working to expand the scope of application of this technology by applying it to water purification.

The photocatalytic filter can be washed and reused.

The photocatalytic filter maintains its antibacterial and deodorizing effects simply by repeatedly washing it. There is no need to replace the filter, and no waste is generated, so you can use the product for a long time.

Contributing to reducing food waste

The Food Fresh Keeper, a room temperature freshness box that utilizes Caltec's photocatalytic technology, can keep the air inside the box clean, so it can, for example, prevent mold from growing on bread and break down the ethylene gas emitted by food to help it last a little longer. We hope that through these efforts we can contribute to reducing food waste.

Thinned wood is used in some of our products

The handle of the "Food Fresh Keeper" is made from thinned Yoshino cypress from Nara. It is made by Yoshitatsu Shoten, a company that shares the same passion for "protecting the environment" and "commitment to products made in Japan." They share a mutual understanding, and Yoshitatsu Shoten uses the remaining wood from the pillars to make disposable chopsticks, while Caltech uses it for the handles.

Packaging boxes are made of recycled cardboard使用しています

As part of our environmentally friendly efforts, Kaltec uses recycled cardboard for product packaging and is reviewing excessive designs that involve multicolored paint to reduce the amount of platemaking film and ink used. Our concern for the environment does not end with our products.

We use recycled materials to purify water

We are developing water purification technology using photocatalytic technology. As part of this project, we are coating a lightweight foam material made from waste glass, which is considered a recyclable waste, with Caltech's photocatalyst and attempting to use it to purify pond water.

Supporting sports activities

In order to contribute to the further development of sports, we will be hosting the 12th National Junior High School Wrestling Championships (November 2021)
We are sponsoring the 18th All Japan Aerobics Championships (December 2021) and the National Junior High School Skating Championships (February 2022), among others.

Contributing to the development of the local economy

Senba Shinsaibashisuji Cooperative Association (July 2021)
Four shopping districts around the National Stadium (August 2021)
Dotonbori Shopping Association (September 2021), etc.
As the economy slumps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we donated our products to various shopping districts and cooperatives to provide a safe and secure space for customers, with the aim of revitalizing the local economy.

Supporting art by people with disabilities

In January 2022, we cooperated with the Paralym Art World Championships 2021, a social contribution project that allows us to continue supporting people with disabilities. All participants in the awards ceremony wore our products. As a cooperating company, we are also involved in activities such as presenting the "Caltech Award" to outstanding works.
